The Black Headscarf is a drama inspired by the mutinies that shook Burkina Faso in early 2011. A mutiny breaks out in the barracks. The soldiers descend on the city, looting and burning shops. Mariama’s small shop goes up in smoke. Her sister-in-law is raped. Mariama loses everything and has no way to reimburse her loan from the bank. Issaka, the husband of the raped woman, comes back from a mission and finds his wife as well as his sister Mariama devastated. One night at a bar Issaka accidentally meets the three soldiers who raped his wife and during the fight that follows he is stabbed. A retired sergeant talks to the young soldiers to urge them to face their responsibilities.
